Monitor Types
We offer many types of monitors tailed to different purposes. You can use this page to determine which is most appropriate for your use case, or see the detailed monitor pages for more information.
If you just want to check if your website is online, Simple Uptime may be the easiest option. For more customisation and to use validation rules, try HTTP.
To monitor other server software, use the TCP or UDP types (depending on what type of port the server listens on).
For infrastructure monitoring, try the ICMP Ping option, which checks if the server hardware is accessible from the public internet.
To ensure a background or CRON task is operating correctly, use the Heartbeat type.
If you only ever want to set the status manually, or want to interface with existing or custom monitoring solutions, try a Manual monitor.
Simple Uptime
This is a streamlined version of the HTTP monitor. Only the necessary options are shown, with all others using sensible defaults.
These can be upgraded to full HTTP monitors later (although this is irreversible).
This type is available in all account tiers.
For more details on Simple Uptime Monitors, see this page.
For a reference guide to monitoring settings, see this page.
HTTP
The most common monitor type, able to send arbitrary HTTP requests and validate responses against given rules.
This type is available in all account tiers.
For more details on HTTP Monitors, see this page.
For a reference guide to monitoring settings, see this page.
TCP
These monitors allow testing arbitrary servers on any TCP port, checking that it is possible to connect and exchange messages.
This type is only available in Business and Enterprise tiers.
For more details on TCP Monitors, see this page.
For a reference guide to monitoring settings, see this page.
UDP
These monitors allow testing arbitrary servers on any UDP port, exchanging messages and validated responses.
This type is only available in Business and Enterprise tiers.
For more details on UDP Monitors, see this page.
For a reference guide to monitoring settings, see this page.
ICMP Ping
Use this monitor to ensure that networking infrastructure is online and responds to ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) ping messages.
This type is only available in Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers.
For more details on ICMP Ping Monitors, see this page.
For a reference guide to monitoring settings, see this page.
Heartbeat
These monitors require background tasks to check in on a regular basis, and raise the alarm if such a notification does not occur.
This type is available in all tiers.
For more details on Heartbeat Monitors, see this page.
For a reference guide to monitoring settings, see this page.
Manual
No monitoring is performed for these monitors, but the status can be set manually or through webhook and email automation methods.
This type is available in all tiers.
For more details on Manual Monitors, see this page.
For a reference guide to monitoring settings, see this page.
